To become competent in English, students definitely need to become a better reader. To some extent, reading for pleasure is the easiest way to do so. 

Pleasure reading differs from studying as students can choose their own books. Many experts on learning languages believe that it helps students in many ways. First of all, it allows students to learn how native speakers use English. Second, when reading for pleasure, students get to learn more about the cultures of English speakers. Besides, they can also find examples of good writing in English. Last, they learn more grammar and words. 

Although it is generally agreed that pleasure reading does matter, many students still don’t want to read for pleasure because they think it is too easy.

Hello, everyone. I’d like to make a brief introduction to student clubs in our school. Let’s begin with our reading club. It was first started in 1968 and has 90 members now. Every Thursday afternoon,they gather together to exchange their ideas on books. And you may join them to share your views. If you're a music lover, come to our music club. This club has a total of 85 members who usually meet on Saturday. Sometimes they go to concerts together. And sometimes they give performances themselves. For those who enjoy outdoor sports, our bicycle club can be a good choice. Trips are usually organized on Wednesday and last at least two hours. Together with our 50 cyclists, you can not only see the beautiful nature but also make yourselves stronger. Of course there are also many other clubs in our school. Kites were invented by the ancient Chinese about 2,300 years ago. In ancient China,in very early times, kites were first used in wars. They were used to send messages. Soldiers could see them from a great distance and know what they meant.

Later, kites became popular and were used by everyone for pleasure. They were made of silk and bamboo. They were designed to act like birds in the air with wings and color, especially the color red, which meant good luck. Some people even added bells to the string of their kite to make sounds. At festivals, you would often see kites flying in the sky.
