今天我们来看一个英国化学家（chemist）的故事。

1. As a boy, Perkin's curiosity prompted early
interests in the arts, sciences, photography, and engineering.

2. But it was a chance stumbling upon a run-down, yet functional, laboratory（现在分词作定语） in his late grandfather's home that solidified the young man's enthusiasm for chemistry.
