How My Parents Met

Lorrie, my mother, is an art teacher at St. Mary’s School for Girls, and Joris, my father, is a music professor at Cal State University, Los Angeles. They met in college. They met by what my father likes to describe as ‘luck’ because they were both involved in a musical club, and he never likes attending those types of events. Back then, Joris had been enrolled in aviolin class, and he was asked to cover for one of the jazz performers by Mr. Dylan.

My father always retells us the story of how he knew he fell in love with my mother Lorrie, after he heard her singing at one of the rehearsals. He was timid and didn’t say much the first few times, but one day he saw my mother riding a bicycle with friends at the park. He was flying a kite and decided to approach her. My mother always says, “I used to have the biggest crush on your father, but because he was so handsome, I thought he had a girlfriend, so I never bothered talking to him.”

As it turns out, it was a great day for them to run into the city. My father and mother quickly exchanged phone numbers and made plans for the next day. My mother suggested that they explore the city bysightseeing and end the night by playing video games at the local pizza shop. Without any hesitation, my father replied, “Of course! I will pick you up at 3.00 P.M.” Their date went so well that they scheduled a second date. For their second date, my father suggested they attend a paintingclass at the local art centre. My mother tells us that dad showed up with a little toy rabbit as a gift, but my dad can’t remember that part of the story. That’s the story of how my parents met. How did your parents meet?
